Our Annual Christian Education Congress was held at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on July 20- 23, 2009. An inspirational agenda kicked off with the Opening Night Worship Service, as we will welcomed Bishop Samuel Lawrence Green, Sr., Presiding Prelate of the Twelfth Episcopal Disrtict, who brought a dynamic message.
The Christian Debutantes and Masters Commission sponsored a beautiful Christian Debutante and Masters Ceremony on Tuesday. Mrs. Audreye Hall and the Conference Commisioners worked hard and created a ceremony that was blessed, as they welcomed our young ladies and gentlemen to the Adult Christian Society.
The Women's Missionary Society followed the CDMC that night as they presented their Annual Gala. There were five beautiful participants, who were queens from their various conferences.
Our Eighth Episcopal District Richard Allen Young Adult Council (RAYAC) was in charge of the daily Midday Worship Services. We heard inspiring and vibrant messages each day. Rev. Stacy Richardson, LA Conference; Rev. Rebecca Johnson, South MS Conference; and our special guest, Rev. Peter Matthews, Itinerant Elder, Author and Founder/ CEO of Holistic Inc.. The spirit remained high within the auditorium during each of the services.
Once again our District's Church School Department offered Certification classes. Dr. Darryl Ingram, Secretary- Treasurer of the AME Church Department of Christian Education was the presenter for the classes.
The District was also honored to have Reverend Dr. Timothy Tyler, Senior Pastor of Shorter Community AME Church in Denver, Colorado, who gave a motivating message to our graduates on Wednesday night of the Congress.
Our Congress ended with our Youth on parade as they demonstrated their talent. The Liturigical Dance Classes (2) and the Karate Class demonstrated their training that they received during the Congress. Several other young people showed their talents through dance, singing, christian rap and dramatization.
We thank all the Facilitators for their enriching presentations, as well as timely discussions.
